API — Setting the stan­dard for large bore pipe repla­ce­ment

As aging plants and faci­li­ties continue to upgrade their systems, compon­ents and piping to extend opera­ting life, API conti­nues to support many large bore pipe repla­ce­ment projects.

The API precision measu­re­ment process enables seam­less fit-up of piping systems utili­zing the latest API Laser Tracker tech­no­logy. In addi­tion to the tracker API utilizes Z+F Imager Laser Scanner for general area and load plan for piping.

Large bore pipe repla­ce­ment projects are very complex and with many delay risks in brin­ging the plant back on-line. Fit-up issues can cause signi­fi­cant project delays with original nominal design data not reflec­ting actual real-world plant condi­tions.

API is certi­fied to Quality Assurance Stan­dard NQA‑1 with a safety manual aligned to the Energy Indus­tries’ stan­dards for safety in addi­tion to local customer demands.

Veri­surf universal 3D metro­logy soft­ware is used to record data sets of the ‘as-found’ condi­tions of the pipe connec­tions.

Using the Radian laser Tracker API tech­ni­cians accu­rately measure the as-found loca­tion of two pipe enclo­sures.

Each pipe face and vector posi­tion are evaluated in real time and reported accord­ingly. Measured data is used to assist the manu­fac­ture the new detail pipe to accu­rately fit-up to exis­ting plant.

In parallel, the Z+F Imager Laser Scanner is used to collect point cloud data of the general area around the exis­ting piping networks; ensu­ring the correct rigging paths for old piping egress and new piping ingress.
